What Is a Defended Hearing?

A defended hearing arises when an accused person pleads not guilty to a criminal or traffic offence. This is your opportunity to challenge the prosecution’s case, test the evidence brought against you, and make your case directly to the court. Throughout the hearing, both sides have a chance to present evidence, call and cross-examine witnesses, and make legal arguments.
